Titanium Grade 5, also known as Ti6Al4V, Ti-6Al-4V, or Ti 6-4, is the most commonly used alloy in the titanium family. This alpha-beta alloy is the workhorse alloy of the titanium industry and accounts for the majority of titanium's commercial applications. Its properties make it a popular choice in aerospace, medical, marine, and many other industries.

Composition:

• Aluminum: 5.5-6.75%
• Vanadium: 3.5-4.5%
• Iron: 0.30% max
• Oxygen: 0.20% max
• Carbon: 0.08% max
• Nitrogen: 0.05% max
• Hydrogen: 0.015% max
• Other elements: 0.40% max (each)
• Other elements: 1.0% max (total)

Properties:

1. Strength: Titanium Grade 5 has a high strength-to-weight ratio, making it ideal for applications that require strength without the weight.

2. Corrosion Resistance: Like other titanium alloys, Ti6Al4V has exceptional resistance to corrosion, especially against saltwater, acids, and various industrial chemicals.

3. Biocompatibility: The alloy is biocompatible, making it a popular choice for medical applications like orthopedic joint replacements and dental implants.

4. Heat Resistance: Titanium Grade 5 can be used in higher temperature environments compared to some other grades of titanium.

5. Weldability: Grade 5 titanium can be welded using appropriate techniques, although post-weld heat treatment might be needed for optimal properties.

6. Formability: While it's more formable than other titanium alloys, Grade 5 is not as formable as pure titanium.

Tantalum is a refractory metal known for its excellent corrosion resistance, high melting point, and its ability to readily form a protective oxide layer. The addition of tungsten (W) enhances the strength of the tantalum, especially at elevated temperatures. The grade Ta 2.5W (often referred to by the UNS designation R05252) signifies that the material is primarily tantalum with 2.5% tungsten.

Characteristics of Ta 2.5W (RO5252) Tantalum Alloy Sheets:

1. Corrosion Resistance: Tantalum and its alloys are exceptionally resistant to corrosion by acids. The addition of tungsten does not significantly degrade this characteristic.
